G3 Conference Special Episode II: The Banner of Truth

Behold Your God Podcast

This is our second and final podcast from the 2019 G3 Conference (though not the last video we will post). Last week we had David Woollin from Reformation Heritage Books. This week Matthew talks to Pat Daly, the U.S. Director of The Banner of Truth Trust.

We talk about the Banner of Truth often on the Behold Your God Podcast. We have been beneficiaries of the Banner’s ministry for several years. One of the key figures in the founding of the Banner, Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones, was the subject of Media Gratiae’s first documentary, Logic on Fire: The Life and Legacy of Dr. Martyn Lloyd Jones.

In this week’s episode, Matthew and Pat discuss how their friendship began. Matthew also gets Pat talking about the heart behind the Banner’s work, how they decide to publish particular books, and why they do what they do.

Matthew also asks Pat about the latest Banner of Truth publication he is particularly excited about. Links to everything are under Show Notes.

0:00-7:00 Matthew and Pat discuss how they first met, just after Media Gratiae produced the first Behold Your God study. Matthew was pleasantly surprised when what began as a business call resulted in a two-hour conversation about Jesus and their favorite Puritan authors.

7:00-9:00 Matthew asks Pat to tell the story of the Banner’s beginning. The ministry has been around for 64 years now, but by God's grace they have held tightly to the original vision.

9:00-11:00 Pat disproves the theory that the Banner only publishes dead authors. They will publish modern writers but they are always compared to the best works from church history. There is a standard that must be met. Pat shares how they measure that standard and how they know if a modern book meets it.

11:00-20:00 Pat describes how the Banner and its leaders see themselves. He also tells Matthew what drives them in the work they do. Matthew states that reading Banner books isn’t just about grasping church history. It is about understanding what God is doing in and through His Church, regardless of time or geography. This is a matter of life and death.

20:00-24:00 Matthew asks Pat to talk about the newest Banner book he is particularly excited about. Links to everything is under Snow Notes.

Although Matthew and Pat didn't discuss it, we wanted to let you know about a short documentary we made telling the story of The Banner of Truth. Watch the video to see and hear the men behind this ministry.

In this week’s Supporter Appreciation Episode, Matthew takes another walk around the G3 Conference. This time he talks to some other friends who are exhibiting their ministries at the conference. Links to each ministry are below so you can find more information about them.
